Anna Pohlmeyer has been invited to give a talk at this year’s MCE conference. MCE is the largest Central and Eastern European technology conference, held in Warsaw for the past 3 years. The conference addresses practitioners from design as well as from engineering. With this year’s leitmotif “Positive Tech”, presentations will critically focus on the societal impact of the tech industry.
Anna’s talk is entitled “Positive Design. Look out for the gorilla!”
Abstract
It has always been the aim of design to improve people’s quality of life. Yet, while numerous examples demonstrate how design facilitates everyday chores, how it assists and extends human capabilities, and how it introduces small moments of delight, surprisingly few examples exist that have been deliberately designed to foster our personal quests to live a good and meaningful life. Recently, design researchers have shown an increased interest in the science of happiness, i.e. Positive Psychology, and how the designed environment affects our wellbeing. In this talk, Anna Pohlmeyer, presents experiences from the emerging field of designing for human happiness: Positive Design. Positive Design builds on knowledge from User Experience and Positive Psychology, and at the same time challenges established business models and design principles.
